Background of the Study
Policy reforms aimed at achieving gender equality are essential to addressing the historical underrepresentation of women in political, economic, and social spheres. In Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, gender inequality has been prevalent across various levels of governance, with women often being excluded from key administrative and decision-making roles. However, in recent years, various national and state-level reforms have been introduced to promote gender equality, including policies aimed at increasing the participation of women in local governance and ensuring that their needs are met in governmental processes. These reforms include initiatives such as affirmative action, gender quotas, and policies aimed at combating gender-based violence. While these policies are meant to empower women, their effectiveness in achieving tangible gender equality within local government administration in Dutse remains underexplored.
